The shape of the sole plate, when moisture is trapped and can't get out, the outer lower edges rot away. which in turn leads to cracks on the render as the sole plate starts to roll, as the lower outer faces are unsupported.

New English oak sole plate and frame repairs

New English sole plate to replace the old rotten timbers. New stud morticed and tenoned to the plate fixed with an oak peg.
