The failure of old pointing and cement-based pointing has led to more problems than solutions, as the cement mortar is harder than the traditional soft red bricks. Consequently, rainwater runoff erodes the bricks more than the mortar, resulting in a greater need for brick replacement rather than just addressing the pointing.

The required work involved removing all the old pointing from the chancel parapet wall string course and upward. This was primarily executed manually using traditional methods. with the aid of mechanical tools where needed.

A natural hydraulic lime-based mortar, enhanced with added lime putty for improved workability, was used. The mortar was carefully gauged to ensure consistency throughout the project.
