Initially the job was internal lime plastering, but behind the internal cement render on metal lath was this poor timber frame. Only 30mm of the sole plate was left the rest was cement filled and bricked up externally, with fertiliser bags covering the timbers and a very thin 25mm cement render all put on around mid 1970's before the house got listed.

New English green oak sole plate fitted matching the dimension to the original (200mm x 200mm) All studs extended and morticed and tenoned into the sole plate, everything has been draw bored and pegged.

We also noticed that every stud was numbered on the internal face, going right to left as looking externally, so we matched these and transferred them on to the new just above the shoulder.

The internal walls were repaired using Douglas fir laths to preserve as much of the original historic fabric as possible. The external wall was lathed with new Douglas fir laths. Both the internal and external walls received two coats of Best of Lime lime plaster: one coat of Warmcote and one of Limecote. Externally, we replicated the 'ashlar' style pargetting.
