Window repairs are crucial as these structures endure the full impact of the British weather, making proper maintenance essential. These windows required comprehensive repair of the lower third due to inadequate previous repairs using two-part wood filler, which had cracked, allowing water ingress.

All compromised material was removed down to solid timber. A new bottom rail was crafted to match existing window profiles and was fixed to the original mortices. The Repair Care system was employed for any minor areas. This system uses a two-part resin that remains semi-flexible. It is fully paintable, easy to work with, and can be machined and sanded to a smooth finish ready for painting. A primer, which must be used in conjunction with the resin, is also a two-part mixture that is applied to the area to be repaired.

The glass was removed to facilitate these repairs. Once completed, the glass was reinstalled with linseed oil putty. After curing, we fully decorated the external surfaces of the windows.

We specialise in repairing leaded light windows, ensuring all glass matches the original as closely as possible. This process includes the use of hand-blown heritage glass. This repair was conducted in situ to prevent any additional damage to the window. Our services include re-soldering the lead came, cementing, and polishing upon completion.

We also replace broken glass panes. In one instance, we replaced a pane on a transom light (also known as a fan light) above an internal door. The replacement involved templating and using glass of matching thickness. The glass was secured with linseed oil putty to ensure consistency with the rest of the window.
