16th Century cottage stair well ceiling, Oakley
16th century stair well ceiling lime plastered.
The old ceiling covering, which had cracked and become loose likely due to the installation of a modern loft hatch.
The existing covering was removed as it was beyond repair. However, the split oak laths behind it have been preserved wherever possible, with new split oak laths installed in areas where preservation was not feasible.
The ceiling has been expertly lime plastered using a two-coat chalk-based lime plaster. The base coat serves as an insulating plaster, while the top coat is a fine chalk-based lime plaster, resulting in a stunning finish.
